NURAJACKS How much are Nurajacks? Nurajacks are available from most Timber Merchants and Tiles Stores around NZ. Ask for them by name. Nurajacks price varies depending on the size of the Nurajack required. How much weight can a Nurajack take? Nurajacks have been load tested up to 1000KG How many Nurajacks will I need? This depends on the dimensions of the deck area - please use the quantity calculator at www.nurajack.co.nz/nurajack-quantity-calculator.html If you are struggling with estimating the quantity of Nurajacks required, please contact one of the Nurajack team https://www.nurajack.co.nz/nurajack-support.html Do I need to put a slip layer between the membrane and the Nurajack? Check the specification to see if a slip or separation layer is required for your particular project. The self-levelling head of the Nurajack ensures the Nurajack is fully supported over the membrane. Also, Nurajacks have been fully tested over Nuralite membranes proving there is no need for a slip layer. HOWEVER, many other membrane suppliers specify a slip layer under a pedestal on their membrane. If a slip/separation layer is required, use the Nurajack Acoustic Separation pad under each Nurajack. See https://www.nurajack.co.nz/accessories.html Will the Nurajack void the membrane warranty? No. Most membrane suppliers provide a Materials Defects Warranty. Their warranty does not cover any damage caused by other products or items impacting on their membrane. Nurajacks are compatible with all sheet membranes (e.g. Butyl, TPO, Bitumen etc.) and are installed without penetration of the membrane and will not damage the membrane. Are Nurajacks affixed to the membrane by screws or glue? NO!!! Nurajacks simply rest on the membrane, gravity and the surrounding walls/parapets/balustrades hold the deck in place. What are holes in the bottom of the Nurajack base for? They are a legacy from an older system and serve no other purpose. What type of paver or tile can I put on a Nurajack? The Tiles and Pavers must be designed for pedestal systems. Typically they are called Structural tiles or pavers. In Tiles they can range in thickness from 14mm, 20mm and 30mm thick. Stone typically needs to be a homogeneous variety and 35-40mm thick and Concrete typically needs to be 50mm thick (often requiring a reinforcing layer and rectifying so is square). Check with your paving/tile supplier as to suitability for a pedestal system. What type of joist or bearer can I put on the Nurajack? Any timber, aluminium or composite bearer can be installed on a Nurajack. Make sure the bearer is suitable for the loads to be applied. Aluminium joists can span greater distances than timber or composite joists. Nurajack recommends www.outdure.com for aluminium joists. Where can I buy Nurajacks for Tile Decks? See https://www.nurajack.co.nz/pavingdecking-suppliers.html Where can I buy Nurajacks for Timber Decks? See https://www.nurajack.co.nz/pavingdecking-suppliers.html Do Nurajacks have to go over a membrane? No, Nurajacks can be installed over any stable, non eroding surface. If installing over grass or dirt, use a Nuraspike https://www.nurajack.co.nz/nuraspike.html How do I use the Nurajack around the perimeter of a tiled deck / are there separate Nurajacks for sides and corners of a deck? The tabs on the top of a Nurajack Tile Head are removable. If opposing tabs are removed tiles can sit side by side to dully support the edge of the tile. The Base of the Nurajack is designed to be cut down so the head can sit as close to the wall as possible. See the installation video here: https://www.nurajack.co.nz/tile-decks.html for more information. Is the Nurajack System BRANZ or CODEMARK appraised? Yes, Nurajacks are part of the Nuralite membrane appraisal framework. How far can I canter-leaver a floated timber deck? This very much depends on the overall dimensions and weight of the deck. Our recommendation is that the canter-leaver of a floated deck does not exceed 200mm. NURASPIKE What is the Price per Nuraspike? Nuraspikes are available from Timber Merchants such as PlaceMakers, Bunnings, ITM, Carters, Build Link. Expect to pay around $45 Inc GST How much weight can a Nuraspike Take? We have tested the Nuraspike in grass and dirt to 500kgs each and observed zero movement over a 3 month period Does Nuraspike Work in all soils? No, Nuraspike will not work in Waterlogged or excessively rocky soils. We recommend that you test the soil by driving a Nuraspike in first before committing to purchase all the Nuraspikes needed for a project How many Nuraspikes will I need? This is dependent on the design of your deck. Nuraspikes are a decking pile replacement - so wherever a pile should go is where a Nuraspike should go. Please see the quantity calculator https://www.nurajack.co.nz/nurajack-quantity-calculator.html for more information. Can I use Nuraspike and Nurajack directly under a joist or do I have to use a bearer? This is dependent on the design of your deck. Nuraspikes are a decking pile replacement - so wherever a pile should go is where a Nuraspike should go. Please see the quantity calculator https://www.nurajack.co.nz/nurajack-quantity-calculator.html for more information. Do I have to use a Nurajack on top of a Nuraspike or can I just use a timber pile on top of a Nuraspike? Nurajacks are the secret to the Nuraspike. The Nurajacks have a self-leveling head and can be placed anywhere on top of the Nuraspike. This means the Nuraspike can be generally lined up with the other Nuraspikes along a joist or bearer line - the Nurajack will affix to the joist or bearer and sit on the Nuraspike. Do the Nurajacks need to be affixed to the Nuraspike? No, the Nurajack just sits on the Nuraspike. This allows for any movement (expansion or contraction) of the deck. If the deck will be subjected to lateral forces, affix the deck to the house foundation or utilise a locating pile Do I need a building Consent? The Nuraspike and Nurajack system is designed for low-profile decks less that 1 meter off the ground, which typically do not need a building consent. However, the structure of the deck should be constructed as per NZS3604 or to local regulated requirements. If a low-profile deck is constructed 'stand alone' away from a building, it is considered a landscape feature and is outside the building code. Will the Nuraspike rust in the ground? Yes, however the Nuraspike will continue to give adequate support of the Nurajack deck for more than 20 years. In very acidic soils - such as in volcanic locations, traditional pile construction should be considered. Can the Nurajack Deck be braced? No, Nurajacks cannot be braced, so we limit Nurajack decks to less than 1000 mm tall. Where Bracing is required use either brace or anchor piles. What if the ground I'm building on has a slope? Some gradient of slope is acceptable. You may have to remove the grass so the top of the Nuraspike is flush to the dirt. However, the deck will not be able to extend more than 1000mm off the ground at it's highest point. How does the Nuraspike Compare in price to a traditional pile? Consider the cost of the products, the time costs required for a traditional pile, the delay of the project while the concrete cures and the clearing away of removed soil. The Nuraspike is considerably cheaper, cleaner and more efficient than a traditional pile. Can I put a spa pool or a shed on the Nuraspike and Nurajack Deck? Each Nurajack can withstand a load up to 1000 kg. Check that the soil is stable enough for the loading of the spa pool or shed. Consider the need to restrain the shed in the event of a seismic event. Are the Nuraspike or Nurajack systems Branz Approved? Nurajacks are part of the Nuralite Membrane Deck BRANZ and Codemark Appraisal. As yet the Nuraspikes do not have an appraisal. How far can I canter-leaver a floated timber deck? This very much depends on the overall dimensions and weight of the deck. Our recommendation is that the canter-leaver of a floated deck does not exceed 200mm.
