When the owners of this modern Kumeu House decided they wanted to maximise their outdoor living space and refresh the look of their deck, they knew that Nurajack decking pedestals were the solution they were looking for.
With the Nurajack system, pedestals are placed on an existing deck with tiles or timber laid over top. Nurajacks enable builder’s to overlay existing decks in a short amount of time without needing the surface be perfectly level. Traditionally building over non-compact surfaces such as gravel or dirt can provide quite a challenge for those involved. A builder is required to dig a hole, put a post in and then cement around the post to create a deck pile and sturdy base for a joist to sit. Often this process takes extra time and labour, therefore adds to the cost of the overall deck.
Using a Nuraspike footing eliminates the need for deck piles when decking over gravel or dirt. Installed directly under a joist or bearer, the Nuraspike is dug into the ground and creates a stable platform for a Nurajack to sit. For the owners of this Kumeu house that’s exactly what they needed for their deck extension. Using five Nuraspikes evenly spaced out and dug into the ground, the spikes were able to make a base for the jacks to be placed on.
Once the deck footings were in position the builder then lined up the jacks and screwed the timber joists down, creating the frame for the deck. Grapa wood was selected to finish the deck off and was laid across the joists and screwed down. The finished product was just what the owner was looking for a modern deck to match their stunning home. With a brand-new outdoor space for entertaining the deck using Nurajacks and Nuraspikes was just what the job needed.
