ENHANCING SAFETY AND STYLE WITH NURAJACK'S NURAGRID SYSTEM AT A LUXURY NAPIER RESIDENCE
“The Nuragrid system provided a safe, resilient and visually appealing solution—especially suited to the fragile limestone.”
Project Overview
In the picturesque coastal city of Napier, a luxury residential project recently showcased the transformative capabilities of the Nurajack Nuragrid system (formerly known as the Nurajack Safety Grid). Spearheaded by Logan Bergamini, founder of Pro Layers, the project involved extensive tiling throughout a luxurious beachfront home—with particular focus on the balconies and outdoor areas where traditional methods posed significant risks.
Challenge: Fragile Natural Stone Meets Elevated Design
The client initially selected limestone pavers (400mm x 800mm, 20mm thick) for the outdoor flooring. While aesthetically stunning, limestone’s natural veining made it prone to cracking under uneven pressure. Traditional pedestal systems alone couldn’t guarantee the stability required for such delicate material.
Drawing on over a decade of tiling experience in New Zealand, Logan immediately recognised the potential for failure and recommended the Nuragrid system to both the architect and homeowner. Logan explained, “We told them that limestone has natural veins which can easily crack. That’s why we advised them to use the safety grid to keep as flat a surface as possible to walk on.” The architect agreed, and the Nuragrid system was sourced from Nurajack.

Solution: Nuragrid’s Safety and Versatility
The Nuragrid system offers a revolutionary approach to raised floated decking, combining design versatility, durability and ease of installation. Key features include:
· Dry or adhesive installation options
· Self-levelling Nurajack pedestals
· Excellent drainage and membrane protection
· Compatibility with various flooring materials
· Sustainable components made from recycled materials
For this project, the limestone was laid over the Nuragrid panels, which were supported by Nurajacks. Logan emphasised the system’s ability to maintain a flat, stable surface—crucial for preventing stone breakage and ensuring safe foot traffic.
Installation Experience
“Nuragrid was very easy to install,” Logan added, noting that even professionals without specialised training could manage it effectively. The steps included:
1. Positioning and levelling the Nurajacks using a laser or level bar.
2. Laying the Nuragrid panels with dovetail joints.
3. Ensuring the Nuragrid was level and stable, fine-tuning with the Nurajack Adjustment Key.
4. Installing the limestone pavers, adjusting as necessary with Nurajack Shims to accommodate the natural stone’s variable thickness.
Outcome: A Seamless Blend of Function and Form
The result was a beautifully tiled outdoor space that met both aesthetic and structural demands. The Nuragrid system provided a safe, resilient and visually appealing solution—especially suited to the fragile limestone. Logan praised the product’s reliability and ease of use, stating, “It is a professional product but also very DIY. You don’t need to be highly qualified to work with it.”
Conclusion
This Napier project exemplifies how the Nurajack Nuragrid system can elevate residential design by solving complex installation challenges with elegance and efficiency. Its combination of durability and ease of installation makes it an ideal choice for both residential and commercial applications. Whether for rooftop bars, podiums or stylish backyards, Nuragrid proves to be a versatile and sustainable solution for modern outdoor flooring.
