TILES OVER NURAJACKS AT
30 DALDY STREET, AUCKLAND CBD

“Nurajacks are bombproof! We’ve never had a problem.” — Eric Pedersen, A1 Stone

Project Overview

Located in the heart of Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter, 30 Daldy Street is a landmark commercial development by Mansons TCLM, showcasing industry-leading sustainability and workplace innovation. With a 6 Green Star accreditation rating and a 120% carbon positive offset, the building reflects a strong commitment to environmental performance. Tenants enjoy premium end-of-trip facilities, a wellness centre and generous shared spaces designed to support connectivity while maximising productivity.

Contractor Profile: A1 Stone

A1 Stone, led by Eric Pedersen and King Ng, brings more than 50 years of tiling expertise to high-profile projects including Te Papa, Auckland Art Gallery and Auckland Casino. Their 18-year partnership with Mansons TCLM is built on trust, consistency and a culture of quality.

“We employ our own tilers, so the standards are the same all the way through,” says Eric. “With subcontractors, you lose control of quality.”

King, who began as an apprentice and now manages sites and co-owns the company, adds: “We’ve grown by focusing on consistency and craftsmanship. That’s what sets us apart.”

Challenge: Large-Scale Tiling Across Diverse Environments

A1 Stone was tasked with installing tiles across several distinct zones within the 30 Daldy Street development. The challenge lay in delivering a uniform, high-end finish across surfaces with differing structural needs, while accommodating both base-build and tenant-specified materials—including large-format tiles requiring precise support.

Solution: Self-Levelling Nurajacks for Stable, Consistent Support

A1 Stone delivered tiling across all external decks. Each zone required a stable and uniform support system, particularly where custom cutting or large-format tiles were used, in order to achieve a clean and cohesive architectural finish. For this reason, the team selected self-levelling Nurajacks, noting their superior stability, long-term performance and ease of installation.

“We’ve used other jacks before, but they’ve tipped over or failed. Nurajacks are bombproof! says Eric. “We’ve never had a problem.”

The self-levelling feature of the Nurajacks ensured full tile support without the need for shims. This streamlined the installation process and provided confidence in the structural integrity beneath the larger pavers.

“The base of the jack is always on the substrate. You know that every tile is fully supported.” King explains.

To reduce the risk of tile movement or breakage, particularly with the large-format tiles on Level 6, extra jacks were placed at the centre of each tile.

Installation Detailing: Nurajack Tile Cladding Clips and Large-Format Support

The project included 600mm x 600mm x 20mm tiles for the lower deck areas and 1200mm x 600mm tenant-specified tiles on Level 6, installed in a stagger-bond pattern to match interior finishes. The oversized tiles required precise alignment and mid-tile jack placement to ensure stability, particularly where long spans or custom cuts increased the risk of movement. This made installation detailing a critical part of the system’s performance, guiding how the Nurajacks, clips and support elements were configured onsite. The Nurajack system proved especially effective in accommodating these larger format tiles, maintaining alignment and structural integrity.

From here, A1 Stone also integrated Nurajack’s new tile cladding clips, replacing traditional rubber bumpers.

“It’s definitely a level up," says King, "The clip is solid and doesn’t move over time.”

The tile cladding clips sit securely between the Nurajack and the tile, creating a consistent perimeter gap against adjoining walls or joinery. This fixed spacing prevents movement, ensuring each tile remains properly positioned. Without this controlled separation, perimeter tiles can shift under load or environmental changes, which may compromise the stability of the entire deck.

Outcome: High-Precision Craftsmanship Meets System Innovation

The 30 Daldy Street project demonstrates how A1 Stone combined meticulous workmanship with an advanced support system to resolve the structural and alignment challenges of large-format exterior tiling. Their confident use of self-levelling Nurajacks created a stable, fully supported platform, resulting in a refined, durable and structurally sound installation across all areas.

This work also showcases the strong synergy between skilled craftsmanship and innovative systems like Nurajack. Through careful detailing, a commitment to quality and the ability to adapt to complex architectural demands, the team delivered a finish that meets the high expectations of premium commercial developments.

“As we walked through the project, we saw a high level of workmanship and customisation,” the Nurajack team noted. “It speaks to A1 Stone’s dedication to excellence.”

Conclusion

The success of this project underscores how the Nurajack system elevates both build quality and long-term performance in demanding commercial environments. By delivering consistent support across varied substrates, simplifying alignment and reducing the need for corrective adjustments, the system enabled a clean, accurate and resilient finish that met the project’s architectural and structural expectations. The result stands as a strong example of how Nurajacks enhance precision, reliability and overall installation outcomes.
